Togetherness. Connection. Support.
These are some of the words you would use to describe the fitness community at Avenue Fitness Club. This is a place where people work together towards a healthier lifestyle, find strength during trying times (or that last rep) and support each other to show up and make it count.
Such a connection was made last year when Kay Colby, Health Producer for WVIZ/PBS, joined a Yogalates class one Saturday morning. Kay shared the class with an Avenue regular, Wendy Kozel, an avid exercise enthusiast who happens to be living with Metastatic Breast Cancer.
If you have ever met Wendy you know how bright her star shines for love, life and lifting. Kay quickly found Wendy’s story inspiring and knew it was the perfect compliment to their upcoming television series featuring living with cancer and cancer research. “Living with Metastatic Cancer” joined the line up and Wendy’s incredible story was featured in the series.
The reach of Wendy’s story doesn’t stop in Northeast Ohio. Recently at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), Kay Colby and her team were honored with the June L. Biedler Cancer Journalism Prize. Congratulation to Kay and her team for such an achievement!
